Mentoring programs

Peer Support - Year 7 students mentored by Year 10 Peer Leaders

Trò chơi thẻ tín dụngOur Peer Support program provides Year 7 students with a peer led approach to enhance their mental, social and emotional wellbeing as they enter High School.

The Program is implemented in Term 1 and focuses on the transition to high school. Students from Year 10 are trained as Peer Leaders and work with students in Year 7.  In peer support sessions, the younger students engage in a structured series of learning experiences guided by their Peer Leaders.

Peer Tutoring

As part of our literacy goals, Carlingford High School holds a Peer Tutoring group in Roll Call every morning. Year 7 students are tutored by year 10 students in reading, using books from our school library and texts studied in class. The students study strategies together to comprehend text and inferences, improve spelling and increase their vocabulary. The year 10 students complete a TAFE course in Peer Tutoring as part of the program.

Year 11 Mentoring Program

Senior students requiring additional support due to learning, emotional, wellbeing, organisational or behavioural needs are invited to join the senior mentoring program from the end of year 10. Students choose a specially trained staff mentor who meets with them regularly to provide ongoing support. Mentors liaise with other resources available in the school to support the student, as needed. These include School Counsellors, Year Advisers, Head Teacher Welfare, Learning Support Team and Deputy Principals.
